Project Context

We've done a series of projects for Saxophonique over the years - and with good reason- she's the other half for our creative director, Tom. You may find her assisting on shoots as well as behind the camera! Cat need some updated introductory website videos, as well as some more music videos for the daytime packages she offers, and we always try to capture photos wherever possible on shoots!

Pre-production and Planning

After some careful consideration and planning, we decided after contact Owen House Wedding Barn that it would make the perfect background for the interview, as well as give us a few different locations we could use for the music videos, and perfect photo opportunities!

In the given timeframe working at Owen House, we thought a good outcome would be enough footage for a 3-4 minute interview video as well as 2 music videos in different locations.

We decided to do the interview first, and like with our Hoole Food Market project, created a series of questions that would give us a great starting point for covering all the points we needed. As always, we collaborated with Saxophonique to make sure we had everything covered, and made sure we could include the points she wanted to touch on as well. Some examples of the pre-production are below:

Having a shotlist proved invaluable for the fast-paced enviroment of Hoole Food Market!

Having a series of interview questions helped shaped the different types of videos we were creating.

Capturing the Content

Maximising the amount of time shooting at Owen House was really important, so we setup the lights and cameras as quick as possible in the ceremony area, which gave us a great backdrop anyway due to the natural light coming through the window.

Having the list of interview questions prepared beforehand made it quick and easy to run through everything. As we always share the list of questions with the client before the shoot, it means that most of the preparation is done before hand and allows for follow up questions on certain points during the interview process.

Finishing up the interview, we moved straight onto the first music video in the same location. As we were recording audio at the same time, we did a few warm-up takes in order to get levels and plan out the shots. Once Cat was happy with the levels, we went for a few takes. Having 2 cameras for these situations really helps as it means we have 2 angles to cut from, from all the takes we capture giving us plenty of different options in the edit.

After the first song was complete, we moved on to the second location in the main space at Owen House Barn. There was some letters left over from a previous wedding that made a nice background for the shoot, so after setting up the lights and getting the audio levels it didn't take us long to get the next video sorted!

Being efficient with the videos, we found we had a little extra time before we needed to pack up and move all of our gear out of the way. We did a cover of 'Lover' by Taylor Swift which only took a few takes, and actually ended up being the video we released first!

Post Production and Editing

Moving onto post production, we had a fair amount of work to do. Turnaround times for videos where we're taking care of both the video and audio take a little more time as there is two different revisions processes we need to take care of!

We started with one of the music videos which had a deadline for valentine's day, and then proceeded with the interview. We had plenty of b-roll from previous events and projects which really helped bring the whole project together.

The Results

The videos have been well received on social media and the website, resulting in a few direct bookings from the videos or upgrades to previously existing packages Saxophonique had to offer!

Here's a few kind words from Cat herself:

"We’re actually crying. Thank you so much. It’s such a lovely video. Thank you so, so much. We absolutely lovely it!!"
